Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers on over-the-road routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Drive various types of trailers including refrigerated, flatbed, tanker, and hazardous materials (Hazmat) loads, following all hazardous materials regulations.
- Utilize GPS navigation systems to plan optimal routes and ensure timely deliveries across multiple locations.
- Load and unload freight using manual handling techniques or truck loading equipment, ensuring cargo integrity and safety during transit.
- Transport automobile parts or other specialty cargo with precision and care, maintaining proper load securement procedures.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to identify maintenance needs or safety concerns before and after each trip.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery documentation, and compliance with FMCSA regulations throughout each shift.
Skills
- Proven experience with commercial truck driving, including route driving and delivery driving in various environments.
- Knowledge of refrigerated trailer operations and handling temperature-sensitive cargo.
- Familiarity with GPS navigation tools for route planning and real-time adjustments.
- Understanding of FMCSA regulations, DOT rules, hazardous materials regulations, and safety protocols for transporting dangerous goods.
- Ability to manually handle cargo safely during loading and unloading processes; experience with truck loading/unloading equipment is a plus.
- Skilled in operating manual transmission trucks with proficiency in manual handling techniques for cargo security.
- Experience with logistics cargo handling involving freight management for different trailer types such as flatbed or tanker units.
