Hermes Landscaping is a nationally recognized, award-winning company that has served the Kansas City metro for over 60 years. We operate across commercial construction, landscape maintenance, snow & ice management, and residential design-build. What we need now is a Senior Accounting Manager ready to take ownership of our financial operations and help drive the business into its next phase of growth.
The Role
This is a key leadership role within our accounting team, designed for someone who wants to grow into a Controller position while gaining real operational exposure.
You will work directly with senior leadership to ensure the business has accurate, timely, and actionable financial information and help build the systems, processes, and team needed to support continued growth.
What You’ll Be Doing
Accounting Operations
- Oversee AP, AR, payroll, general ledger, billing, and invoicing
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and strong internal controls
Reporting & Visibility
- Lead month-end close and improve speed and accuracy
- Build reporting that helps leadership understand performance, not just numbers
Job Costing & Business Insight
- Improve job costing, margin visibility, and operational reporting
- Partner with operations to connect financials to real-world performance
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify inefficiencies and implement better processes
- Help evolve systems and workflows as the company grows
Team Leadership
- Lead, develop, and mentor accounting staff
- Create accountability, structure, and a strong team culture
Audit & Compliance
- Support year-end close and work with external auditors
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements
Who we're looking for:

- An Accounting Manager ready for broader responsibility

Experience
- 5–10 years in accounting or finance
- Background in public accounting or progressive industry roles
- Experience in construction, landscaping, or job-costing environments is a plus
- CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred
Requirements

- Ability to improve processes, not just follow them
- High attention to detail with strong follow-through
- Comfortable working directly with leadership
- Able to operate in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
