Salt Water Disposal Field Operator

Position Overview

Henry Hill Oil Services is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Field Operator to support our salt water disposal facilities, pipeline systems, and related oilfield operations.

This position works a 7-days-on/7-days-off rotational schedule, with crew change occurring on Thursdays. Scheduled workdays may consist of either 10-hour or 12-hour shifts, depending on operational needs.

The Field Operator is responsible for inspecting, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting SWD equipment to ensure water is received, transferred, and injected safely and efficiently. This position works closely with the Control Room, maintenance personnel, truck drivers, pipeline customers, and other field operators.

Our primary goal is to take water safely and efficiently while maintaining reliable operations, accurate reporting, and high facility standards.

Key Responsibilities

SWD Operations

• Perform scheduled walkthroughs and inspections of assigned salt water disposal facilities.
• Inspect and operate injection pumps, charge pumps, transfer pumps, recycle pumps, valves, filters, and related equipment.
• Verify that truck offload systems and pipeline receipts are operating correctly.
• Change and clean SWD filters as needed.
• Monitor injection well pressure and operating conditions.
• Identify leaks, spills, unusual noises, vibration, pressure changes, and other abnormal conditions.
• Respond promptly to alarms, equipment shutdowns, high tank levels, pipeline issues, and other operational problems.
• Assist with safely restarting equipment after shutdowns or maintenance.

Maintenance and Troubleshooting

• Perform basic mechanical troubleshooting and minor repairs.
• Identify equipment failures and submit accurate work orders.
• Coordinate with maintenance personnel and control room when repairs are required.
• Assist with preventive maintenance, equipment cleaning, and winterization.
• Maintain tools, vehicles, pumps, hoses, and other company equipment in good working condition.
• Follow established operating procedures and equipment startup and shutdown requirements.

Safety and Environmental Compliance

• Follow all company safety policies, operating procedures, and environmental requirements.
• Inspect tank containment, piping, valves, hoses, and facility grounds for leaks or potential hazards.
• Respond appropriately to spills and assist with containment and cleanup.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
• Wear required personal protective equipment.
• Report safety concerns, environmental issues, equipment damage, and near misses immediately.
• Complete required safety meetings, training, and documentation.

Communication and Reporting

• Maintain regular communication with the Control Room throughout the shift.
• Report equipment status, alarms, tank conditions, maintenance needs, and operational changes.
• Complete walkthrough sheets, shift notes, inspection forms, work orders, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
• Coordinate with truck drivers, pipeline operators, foremen, and other departments.
• Provide clear shift-change information to the incoming crew.
• Use company communication, reporting, and monitoring systems as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
• Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
• Ability to communicate clearly by phone, radio, text, and written reports.
• Ability to follow procedures and respond appropriately during emergencies.
• Basic computer and smartphone skills.
• Willingness to work outdoors in changing and extreme weather conditions.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts when required.
• Ability and willingness to work at heights, including climbing stairs and accessing elevated catwalks approximately 25–30 feet above ground level.
• Ability to travel between multiple field locations during the shift.
• Must be dependable, punctual, and able to report to work as scheduled.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous oilfield, salt water disposal, pipeline, production, maintenance, or equipment-operating experience.
• Experience with pumps, valves, tanks, piping, filtration systems, compressors, or injection wells.
• Experience completing inspections, maintenance reports, and work orders.
• Knowledge of spill prevention, containment, and oilfield safety practices.
• Experience working a rotational oilfield schedule.

Oilfield experience is preferred but may not be required for candidates with strong mechanical ability, reliability, and a willingness to learn.

Physical Requirements

The employee must be able to:

• Frequently walk, stand, bend, climb stairs and ladders, and work on uneven surfaces.
• Safely lift and carry up to [50–75] pounds.
• Use hand tools, hoses, valves, filters, and other field equipment.
• Enter and exit trucks and equipment throughout the shift.
• Work around water, oil, chemicals, moving equipment, high-pressure systems, and industrial machinery.
• Work outdoors during heat, cold, wind, snow, rain, mud, and other North Dakota weather conditions.
• Wear required personal protective equipment for extended periods.
