The Medical Student - Urology position provides aspiring physicians with meaningful clinical exposure and hands-on experience within a busy urology practice. This role is intended for individuals currently enrolled in medical school or those who have been accepted and will begin medical school within the next 12 months. Working under the supervision of physicians and clinical staff, the student will assist with non-independent clinical, administrative, and patient care support activities while gaining valuable insight into outpatient urologic care.
Primary Responsibilities- Support physicians and clinical staff during outpatient clinic operations.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure supplies and equipment are stocked and readily available.
- Assist with patient flow, rooming patients, and obtaining basic patient information as permitted.
- Observe and participate in patient care activities appropriate to training level and organizational policies.
- Assist with documentation, medical record review, and other administrative functions under supervision.
- Coordinate patient records, diagnostic results, and outside medical documentation as needed.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational policies.
- Participate in educational opportunities, departmental meetings, and quality improvement initiatives as appropriate.
- Demonstrate professionalism, excellent communication, and compassionate patient-centered care.
- Perform other duties as assigned consistent with the student's level of education and institutional guidelines.
- Currently enrolled in an accredited medical school or
- Accepted into an accredited medical school with a matriculation date within the next 12 months.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Strong interest in urology, surgery, or academic medicine.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Basic computer proficiency, including electronic medical records preferred.
- Previous healthcare experience, including medical assistant, scribe, EMT, research assistant, or clinical volunteer experience.
- Experience working in a physician practice or ambulatory care setting.
- Familiarity with EPIC electronic medical record system.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while maintaining accuracy.
- Professional demeanor and commitment to outstanding patient service.
- Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a dynamic healthcare environment.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to perform routine clinical support tasks.
