The purpose of this position is to coordinate activities and events for participants at a Senior Center, in addition to assisting and managing the operations of the assigned Center.

  • Plans, organizes and implements activities, trips, and special events at an assigned Senior Center; assists in coordinating daily activities of assigned Senior Center; encourages senior residents to participate in activities; assists in the initial assessment of participants’ ability to attend the Senior Center or activity.
  • Takes initiative to establish priorities, manage workload, schedule, accomplish tasks and identify opportunities for improvement; provides responsive and timely feedback on status and progress of work activities; coordinates and facilitates activities, trip, and special events, including themes, concepts, and objectives in relation to organizational goals and commission initiatives; researches and recommends opportunities for special events and community partnerships with outside organizations; produces project budgets for individual events when applicable. 
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with department personnel, organizers of events, local businesses, sponsors, media, and community groups; develops partnerships with other agencies and departments; works with other departments and agencies as needed to ensure compliance with necessary permits and regulations.
  • Assists the Senior Center Manager with the management of the day-to-day operations of the assigned Senior Center; In the absence of the manager, assumes the responsibility for operating the Senior Center; assists in the scheduling of educational programs; assists in locating instructors and coordinating classes for senior clients; assists in the monitoring the facility to ensure that it is safe, secure, and properly maintained; assists the manager with welcoming new Senior Center participants and briefing them on policies and procedures; provides companionship and assistance to senior center participants; assists with special projects on weekends and/or in evenings when necessary.
  • Processes a variety of documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures receives and reviews various documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
  • Operates a personal computer to enter, retrieve, review, or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions. 
  • Communicates with County City officials, supervisor, other employees, clients, third party service contractors, laborers, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Education and Experience:

Requires a High School diploma or equivalent. Requires three (3) years of experience performing general office duties, two (2) years of experience working with the public (senior adult population preferred), one (1) year of experience planning activities and events, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


Licenses or Certifications:

Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license. Must possess and maintain the following certifications: Certified Nursing Assistant (preferred), CPR, and First Aid.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of local government operations, Senior Services related programs, policies and plans, and modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other similar programs.
  • Skill in the use of computers and software applications related to the essential functions of the job. 
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Ability to meet and deal with employees and the public in an effective and courteous manner.
  • Ability to get along with others, and work effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evening activities.
  • Ability to multi-task and work within deadlines.
  • Ability to deal with confidential and sensitive matters.
  • Ability to work with and process payments for accounts within the budget and department.  
  • Ability to use computers for data entry, word processing, and accounting purposes. 
  • Ability to operate a copying machine. 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


The work is sedentary work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Requires mental acuity including the ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes, the ability to express ideas by means of the spoken word and have close visual acuity.
