General Statement of Duties
Develops and sustains focus on a shared mission and clear vision for improvement of learning and teaching. Supervises all activity within the local school facility and is ultimately responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating the educational program within the school. Supervises and coaches teachers, support staff and students. Creates a school culture that promotes the ongoing improvement of learning and teaching for students and staff. Coordinates the school program with district goals, policies, and procedures. Provides leadership in all areas of instruction
Uses student performance data to assess teaching and learning effectiveness. Demonstrates knowledge of academic expectations. Applies appropriate measures to monitor student achievement. Provides a program of student recognition. Uses the Code of Student Conduct as the basis of judgments in disputes, confrontations and/or disciplinary cases. Communicates school policies relating to student behavior to students and parents. Guides staff to the accomplishment of a given task. Delegates duties and responsibilities and accepts responsibility for the decisions made and the actions taken. Demonstrates sensitivity to staff members' needs. Recognizes professional growth of staff members. Leads the staff in functioning as a cohesive group. Demonstrates a clear understanding of and adherence to all School Board policies relating to the collection and expenditure of funds. Conducts a systematic budget development process. Exercises planning skills for self, others, and student scheduling. Demonstrates punctuality by meeting deadlines. Implements the School Plan, makes necessary modifications, and assesses progress towards objectives. Knows the community and provides clear and effective oral and written communication. Is accessible to school and community members. Provides supervision for after school programs and other special activities, as necessary.
Essential Duties
Master's degree with a minimum of three years' experience as a teacher, administrator or supervisor, at least one year of which must have been at the school level to which assigned. Post-graduate professional certificate with Administration and Supervision endorsement required. Must possess extensive knowledge of the curriculum and instructional program including content and methodologies. Organizational skills are required to plan, implement and evaluate the school program and lead the teaching and support staff in achieving the school's goals. Supervisory skills include staff assignment, monitoring staff development and evaluating staff effectiveness. Highly developed communications skills are required for contact with community members, parents, students, teachers and central office administration; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
