Reports to: Division Superintendent
Supervises: All staff members located in, or assigned to, the school
Contract: 12 month
FLSA: Exempt
Qualifications:
- At least three years of successful leadership and management experience as a principal, assistant principal, or instructional specialist. One year of which must have been at the elementary level.
- As required by the State of Virginia.
- Strong instructional leadership skills; excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills; the ability to work successfully with students, parents, and staff.
- Strong background in reading instruction is preferred.
- Additional qualifications as deemed necessary by the School Board and Division Superintendent.
Primary Performance Responsibilities:
- Establishes and maintains an instructional program consistent with the vision and goals of the division.
- Assists in the development, revision, and evaluation of the curriculum as directed by the superintendent and/or assistant superintendent of instruction.
- Establishes and maintains an effective learning climate within the school.
- Provides for the continuing development and implementation of an effective instructional program through classroom supervision and instructional leadership.
- Assumes responsibility for the implementation and observance of all board policies and regulations by the staff and students.
- Supervises and evaluates staff performance and develops individual plans for improvement consistent with division policy and guidelines.
- Develops the master teaching schedule.
- Fosters effective school-community relations by working with advisory groups and local agencies.
- Communicates and implements the guidelines for appropriate student conduct and enforces discipline, as necessary, in accordance with state regulations and school board policy. Participates in the selection and supervision of all school personnel.
- Participates in new staff orientation and assists in their on-going professional development.
- Evaluates and counsels all staff members regarding their individual performance.
- Recommends the reappointment or removal of staff in accordance with established procedures.
- Works with support staff to ensure the efficient operation of the school.
- Develops and monitors an annual school budget; approves all school purchases.
- Prepares and submits reports as required to the the appropriate supervisor.
- Remains abreast of trends, developments, and research as they relate to education and school operation.
- Assumes responsibility for his or her own professional growth and development through participation in professional organizations, attendance at regional, state, and national meetings, and enrollment in advanced courses.
- Conducts staff meetings and communicates consistently and effectively with staff.
- Designs and presents, in concert with the Assistant Superintendent of Instruction, staff development opportunities throughout the school term.
- Communicates with the superintendent regarding all school activities and concerns.
