General Statement of Duties

The Substitute Teacher provides classroom instruction and maintains a productive learning environment in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. This role ensures continuity of instruction, supports student learning, and upholds school policies and expectations across K-12 grade levels.

Essential Duties

  • Deliver instructional lessons and activities according to the regular teacher's lesson plans.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Manage classroom behavior in accordance with school and district policies.
  • Take accurate attendance and complete required classroom documentation.
  • Adapt teaching methods to meet the developmental, academic, and social needs of students.
  • Provide clear instructions and support to students during class activities and assignments.
  • Communicate effectively with school staff regarding student progress, concerns, or incidents.
  • Supervise students during instructional time, transitions, and assigned duties (e.g., lunch, recess, hallway).
  • Follow emergency procedures and school safety protocols as required.
  • Leave detailed notes for the regular teacher regarding lesson completion, student behavior, and any issues encountered.
  • Regular attendance required

Additional Information:

$271.84 DAILY RATE (2026-27)

NOTE: SELECTED CANDIDATE MUST WORK 21-CONSECUTIVE INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS IN THE SAME CLASS TO BE PAID BOARD SUB RATE.

Minimum Requirements

  • Ability to manage classroom behavior effectively across diverse age groups.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic instructional and classroom management skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in a variety of classroom settings and grade levels.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Professional demeanor and commitment to student safety and confidentiality.
  • Bachelor's degree or coursework in education or a related field (preferred).
