What are the responsibilities and job description for the Deputy Jailer position at Henderson Co Detention Center?
EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION:
A Deputy Jailer is a skilled position for a Detention Center. A Deputy Jailer is responsible for maintaining the safety & security of the jail while providing for the continuous care, custody, and control of the inmates.
Henderson County Detention Center employees work with or around inmates. Employees work under general to close supervision.
Employees are required to work various shifts including nights, weekends & holidays. This is not a Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. job!
EXAMPLES OF SOME OF THE DUTIES REQUIRED OF A DEPUTY JAILER:
Supervision and Monitoring of Inmates:
- inside and outside of housing units
- assigned to work
- during all necessary escorts and transports
- when outside the facility
- during any contact with the Public, Contract Vendors and Volunteers
- during activities inside and outside of the housing units including but not limited to classes, services, and programs
Provide for the Daily Needs of Inmates:
- including but not limited to Laundry, Meals, Hygiene, Visitation, Medical, Religious and Recreation services
- Conduct headcounts, conduct searches of inmates and areas accessed by inmates, & inspections; no less than (1) area search during each shift
Maintain and Complete All Required Paperwork:
- Submit all required paperwork to shift supervisor prior to end of shift each day
- In a legible, concise & professional manner
- Document incidents with concise details in report format
Daily Maintenance and Cleaning:
- Supervise and assist in cleaning all areas of facility
- Inspect all areas for maintenance issues and cleanliness. Document and correct findings
REQUIREMENTS (FOR EMPLOYMENT):
- Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
- High School Graduate: attach copy of diploma or GED to application
- Possess and Maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license: attach copy to application
- No felony convictions; misdemeanors reviewed on case by case basis
- Ability to speak, comprehend, read and legibly write using the English language
- Annually: Complete assigned training (24 hours minimum)
- Pass a pre-employment background investigation
- Pass a pre-employment drug screen
- If employed, Pass any requested drug and alcohol screens
- Maintain a level of physical fitness to satisfactorily perform required duties without assistance.
A thorough background investigation is conducted on all applicants under consideration for hire. The background investigation may include but is not limited to the following: fingerprinting, photographing, interviews with family, references, neighbors, and past and present employers, credit history check, criminal records check, drug screen.
Starting pay for a Deputy Jailer (without experience): $18.00 per hour
