Company Description

The Union Coun­ty Super­vi­sor of Assess­ments over­sees real prop­er­ty assess­ment process through the Coun­ty, ensur­ing imple­men­ta­tion with­in the law that was enact­ed by the Illi­nois Gen­er­al Assem­bly and Court deci­sions. The Super­vi­sor of Assess­ments main­tains tax maps, prop­er­ty record cards, exemp­tion cer­tifi­cates and keeps a cur­rent list of prop­er­ty own­ers. The Super­vi­sor of Assess­ments sends notice of assess­ment changes to tax­pay­ers and pub­lish­es the assess­ments in the news­pa­pers. The Super­vi­sor of Assess­ments works under the direc­tives of the Depart­ment of Rev­enue and pro­vides them with infor­ma­tion. The Super­vi­sor of Assess­ments serves as the Clerk of the Coun­ty Board of Review to ensure Board of Review actions, deci­sions, notices, pub­li­ca­tions and com­plaints are processed in a time­ly man­ner and have met the statu­to­ry require­ments.

Job Description

Identify property and assessments for all taxable and nontaxable parcels of real estate in Union County

Update and maintain property record cards for all taxable and nontaxable parcels of real estate in Union County

Update and maintain information on mobile homes which are taxed under the Mobile Home Local Services Act (Privilege Tax)

Assist the general public with assessment issues, property tax questions, exemption applications, etc.

Qualifications

High school diploma or associates degree in related field

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Ability to learn various software packages in the Assessment Office

Ability to read legal descriptions

Ability to work with the public in a professional manner

Ability to operate county vehicle in order to obtain property information

Must have a valid Illinois driver's license

Common construction knowledge preferred

Additional Information

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

$17.52 an hour with 4% increase negotiated for the 4 years 

Longevity bonus based on years of service:

  • 6-10 years      $225.00 per year
  • 11-15 years     $500.00 per year
  • 16-20 years     $825.00 per year
  • 21 years          $1,225.00 per year

35 hour work week; Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm (1 hour unpaid lunch)

FLSA STATUS: Non exempt

Eligible to participate in available medical and dental insurance plan beginning the first day of the month following hire date.

4 personal days per fiscal year

Vacation awarded based on years of service:

  • 1-9 years of service           10 days' vacation
  • 10 years of service            15 days' vacation
  • After 10 years of service    1 additional day per year up to 20 days
