JOB SUMMARY


The Registered Nurse (RN) at Hemphill County Hospital District knows and applies current nursing theory, principles of care and nursing procedures in performing the following functions appropriate to the age of the patient, maintains a safe and clean care environment, quality improvement, may assist as assigned in the supervision of the certified nurse aides and LVNs, actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Hemphill County Hospital District and performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or designee.



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Patient Assessment and Care: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' health status, including physical, emotional, and psychosocial dimensions. Develop and implement individualized care plans based on assessment findings and evidence-based practices.

  • Medication Administration: Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, ensuring accuracy, safety, and adherence to established protocols. Monitor patients for adverse reactions and intervene promptly as needed.

  • Patient Education: Provide education to patients and their families regarding disease management, treatment plans, medications, and preventive care measures. Empower patients to participate in their own healthcare decisions and self-care activities.

  • Collaboration: Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, and other healthcare team members to coordinate patient care and facilitate interdisciplinary communication. Participate in patient care conferences and case reviews to ensure continuity of care.

  • Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including nursing assessments, care plans, medication administration records, and progress notes. Adhere to legal and ethical standards of documentation and confidentiality.

  • Emergency Response: Respond promptly to medical emergencies and provide emergency care as necessary. Assess the situation, initiate appropriate interventions, and communicate effectively with emergency response teams.

  • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient outcomes, safety, and satisfaction. Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the development and implementation of best practices.

  • Compliance: Adhere to regulatory standards, organizational policies, and professional codes of conduct governing nursing practice. Maintain licensure and certification requirements, attending continuing education programs as necessary to stay current in nursing practice.

  • Performs emergency medical procedures such as Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and documents data related to patients’ care.
  • Administers blood and blood product transfusions or intravenous infusions and manages patients’ pain relief and sedation, monitoring patients’ responses and changing care plans accordingly.
  • Assesses urgent and emergent health conditions and interprets the results of diagnostic tests and screening procedures based on assessment results.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

In cases where applicable, certain RNs may hold supervisory responsibilities in the role of a charge nurse.

ALL DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS MUST BE PERFORMED CONSISTENT WITH THE HCHD PERFORMANCE STANDARDS.

Education


Minimum


High School Diploma

Registered nurse (RN) with appropriate state license or compact licensure with multistate privileges.

Must possess a National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).

Completion of an accredited associate or bachelor’s degree in nursing or a diploma in nursing.

Experience in a clinical setting.

Two (2) years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an acute or emergency care environment.


Licenses & Certifications

  • Registered nurse (RN) with appropriate state license or compact licensure with multistate privileges.
  • Must possess a National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
  • Completion of an accredited Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a diploma in nursing.
  • Obtain and maintain as a condition of employment current certifications for BLS, ACLS, and PALS within 3 months of hire.
  • Obtain and maintain as a condition of employment current certifications for TNCC within 6 months of hire.
