Job Summary: Student Teachers who are currently completing their placement in the Hempfield School District are eligible to serve as substitute teachers for up to ten days per semester, contingent upon district needs and successful completion of at least one satisfactory observation. This opportunity, permitted under Pennsylvania law, helps address substitute teacher shortages while allowing future educators to gain valuable classroom experience, build confidence, and strengthen their instructional skills in a familiar learning environment.
Qualifications:
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Meets and instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
2. Follows teacher's instructional plan to meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
3. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
4. Follows written plan based on the clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicates these objectives to the students.
5. Encourages students to set and maintain positive standards of classroom behavior.
6. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's mission statement, the philosophy of education, and instructional goals and objectives.
7. Assesses the accomplishments of to leave a written report for the teacher.
8. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
9. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations.
10. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and, for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
