MULTIFAMILY BOOKKEEPER - 20 - 25 HOURS PER WEEK
POSITION SUMMARY
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Bookkeeper to join our multifamily real estate company. The Bookkeeper will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records for our multifamily properties and corporate operations, processing accounts payable and accounts receivable, reconciling bank and property accounts, and assisting with monthly financial reporting.
The ideal candidate has strong accounting skills, excellent attention to detail, and prefer experience working with multifamily real estate, property management, or multiple entities/properties. This position requires someone who is comfortable managing multiple priorities, meeting deadlines, and maintaining accurate financial information across multiple properties.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Property Accounting & Bookkeeping
- Maintain accurate books and financial records for multiple multifamily properties and entities.
- Record and categorize property income and expenses accurately and consistently.
- Perform monthly bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Maintain accurate accounts payable and accounts receivable records.
- Review transactions for proper coding to the appropriate property, unit, vendor, and expense category.
- Assist with monthly and year-end closing processes.
Accounts Payable
- Process and code property and corporate invoices.
- Verify invoices for accuracy, proper approvals, and appropriate property allocation.
- Prepare vendor payments and maintain accurate vendor records.
- Monitor outstanding invoices and resolve discrepancies with vendors and property managers.
- Track recurring expenses and service contracts.
Accounts Receivable & Property Income
- Reconcile rent collections and deposits to accounting records.
- Monitor outstanding receivables and assist with identifying discrepancies.
- Assist with security deposit accounting and related reconciliations.
Financial Reporting
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements for individual properties.
- Prepare and maintain property-level income statements, balance sheets, and general ledger reports.
- Assist with budget-to-actual reporting and variance analysis.
- Provide financial information and reports to management, ownership, and outside accounting professionals as needed.
- Assist with year-end financial reporting and tax preparation.
Property & Vendor Support
- Maintain accurate vendor information, W-9s, insurance certificates, and other required documentation.
- Assist with tracking property expenses, capital improvements, repairs, and maintenance costs.
- Work with property manager to resolve accounting discrepancies and ensure timely reporting.
- Communicate with vendors, property manager, and internal team members regarding billing and accounting questions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
- Experience with multifamily real estate, property management, or real estate accounting strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of debits, credits, reconciliations, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
- Experience managing accounting records for multiple entities or properties preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet recurring monthly deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information.
