Associate Attorney, Real Estate


Hemenway & Barnes seeks a motivated junior- to mid-level associate for its dynamic real estate practice.


The associate will join a team handling complex commercial real estate transactions and advising closely-held businesses, private investors, high-net-worth individuals, family offices, trustees and estates on matters involving commercial and residential real estate.


The ideal candidate will have a strong interest and experience in real estate transactions including acquisitions and sales, leasing, development and financing.  


Excellent academic credentials, outstanding writing and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment and a commitment to confidentiality and professionalism are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Real Estate Transactions

  • Manage sophisticated commercial and residential real estate transactions from inception through closing.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate purchase and sale agreements, leases, easements, licenses, operating agreements, and related transaction documents.
  • Conduct and coordinate due diligence, including title, survey, zoning, environmental, and permitting reviews.
  • Structure and negotiate financing transactions, including commercial loans and private lending arrangements.
  • Advise clients on acquisition, disposition, development, and ownership strategies for investment and personal-use properties.
  • Coordinate closings and oversee post-closing matters.

 

Private Client Services

  • Collaborate with the firm's trusts and estates, tax, corporate, and private client attorneys on matters involving real estate assets held by estates, trusts, LLCs, family partnerships, and other wealth-transfer vehicles.
  • Counsel high-net-worth individuals and families regarding ownership structures designed to support estate planning, asset protection, and generational wealth transfer objectives.
  • Assist clients with vacation properties, family compounds, investment real estate portfolios, and legacy properties.
  • Support succession and transition planning involving closely held family businesses and real estate assets.

The base salary range provided below reflects our good faith estimate of the expected starting compensation for this role at the time of posting. The final compensation offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on job-related, non-discriminatory factors, including a candidate’s experience, qualifications, education, external market data, and internal equity considerations. In addition to base salary, employees receive other variable compensation based on their role and individual performance. $170,000 - $220,000.
