Facility Maintenance Technician I: $35.00 - $44.67/hourly

Facility Maintenance Technician II: $38.60 - $49.25/hourly

Facilities Maintenance Technician I is the journey-level class and is flexibly staffed with the advanced journey-level Facilities Maintenance Technician II class.  For advancement from Facilities Maintenance Technician I to Facilities Maintenance Technician II, proficiency is typically met within a 36- to 60-month period, depending on an individual’s prior experience.

Our Facilities Maintenance Technician I/II responsible for maintaining the district’s buildings and grounds through skilled repair, construction and preventive maintenance work. From carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical tasks to HVAC servicing, roofing repairs, metal fabrication and equipment operation, this position ensures that all facilities remain safe, reliable and welcoming. The technician performs routine inspections, troubleshoots issues, coordinates utility shutdowns, installs and repairs fixtures and finishes, maintains chemical treatment systems, responds to emergencies, and works closely with vendors and internal customers—all while upholding strong safety practices and pride in craftsmanship.

In addition to hands-on maintenance, this position plays an active role in planning and documentation. Responsibilities include reading blueprints, estimating materials, maintaining preventive maintenance records and logs, preparing reports, managing janitorial and supply inventories, and participating in facility planning and renovation discussions. The technician also supports security system coordination, assists other operations personnel as needed, completes monthly safety inspections, and helps ensure that facility operations run smoothly, efficiently and in alignment with the district’s customer-focused mission.

Facilities Maintenance Technician II 
The Facilities Maintenance Technician II performs all duties of a Technician I while taking on more advanced technical, planning and oversight responsibilities. This includes developing preventive maintenance programs, performing higher-level electrical and lighting control work, interpreting complex blueprints, and managing project scopes, quotes and contracts. The Technician II also coordinates and oversees the work of vendors and contractors, supports security and building management system programming, and leads special maintenance projects by scheduling personnel, managing materials and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to District standards.

Qualified candidates will have education experience substantially equivalent to graduation from high school or possession of a GED and a minimum of three years of construction, mechanical or building maintenance experience, a valid Class C California driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the district’s vehicle insurance policy.

Qualified candidates will also possess or have the ability to obtain the following:

  • A valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification within six months and maintain valid certification thereafter. 

  • A forklift certification within six months
