Salary:
- Utility Crew Member I: $31.74 - $40.52/hourly
- Utility Crew Member II: $36.76 - $46.92/hourly
- Utility Crew Member III: $40.52 - $51.73/hourly
- Annual Merit Increases: Full-time employees are eligible for 5% merit increases on an annual basis until they reach the top of their pay range.
Already certified?
- Commercial Class A Driver’s License: Successful candidates who possess a State of California commercial license at the time of application will receive a 10% initial pay increase.
- SWRCB Distribution Grades 2-5: Successful candidates who possess a State of California State Water Resources Control Board Distribution Grade 2 -5 at the time of application will receive a 5% initial pay increase.

As a Utility Crew Member I/II/III, your day-to-day responsibilities will include hands-on work that keeps our water running smoothly. You will repair water mains, service lines, meters, hydrants and related facilities using map plats and GIS. Although the work is rewarding, it can be demanding. Expect long hours using shovels, digging bars, pneumatic tools to pothole existing utilities, while also being responsible for setting up and removing traffic control devices to protect crews from street traffic.
TYPICAL SCHEDULE: Our crews work a 9/80 Flex Schedule which means they are typically here Monday – Thursday, 6:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. and have every other Friday off. Working Fridays are 6:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. Utility Crew Members work flexible hours and/or extended work shifts, including weekends and holidays. This includes being required to work a rotating one-week standby shift which includes being available 24/7, weekends and holidays. Utility Crew Members may be required to work a rotating one-week duty response shift.

- Minimum of 1 year of work experience in a construction-related field
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid Class C California driver’s license and the ability to maintain insurability under the district’s vehicle insurance policy.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification within six months from date of hire
DISTRIBUTION CERTIFICATION: The Utility Crew Member I requires passing the State of California Water Resources Control Board Water Distribution Operator Grade 2 (D2) test and obtaining certification within two years from the date of hire. In order to be considered for the Utility Crew Member II or III, candidates must possess the required certification at the time their application is submitted.
CLASS A COMMERCIAL LICENSE: Candidates must be willing to obtain a valid California Class A commercial driver’s license with tanker endorsement within 12 months of employment and continue to maintain insurability under the district’s vehicle insurance policy. In order to be considered for the Utility Crew Member II or III, candidates must possess their Class A license at the time their application is submitted.
