Summary
The Controller position reports to the CFO, supervises the accounting team and has primary responsibility for leading and directing the organization’s accounting functions. This includes financial reporting, cash management, budgeting and forecasting, project financial management, and accounting oversight. This position is a hands-on position in a fast-paced environment in our headquarters office located in La Mesa, San Diego County.
The Controller responsibilities include overseeing all functions of the accounting department including preparing consolidated financial reports, maintaining best practices and implementing fiscal controls, and planning and implementing process improvements and efficiencies. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, able to work independently or with a team, and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Controller Responsibilities:
- Manage accounting staff
- Develop and maintain project accounting and reporting systems
- Prepare financial statements including bank reconciliations, journal entries and analysis
- Prepare financial and income tax projections
- Maximize cash flow
- Maintain and establish procedures for all accounting systems
- Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Serve as in-house manager/liaison for outside audits
- Prepare sales and property tax returns
- Complete special projects and analyses as required
Salary will be based on qualifications and/or experience, with a robust benefits package. Expected starting pay range of $140,000 to $170,000*.
*Final agreed upon compensation will be based on a variety of factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, certifications, skills, and work location.

Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business
- At least 5 years’ experience as a Controller
- Demonstrated experience managing a professional staff
- Experience in the environmental consulting or architecture/engineering professional services industry
- In-depth knowledge of Excel functions/skills.
- Demonstrated excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
Additional skills considered a plus:
- Working knowledge of Deltek Vantagepoint Accounting Software
- Master’s Degree or CPA
Salary : $140,000 - $170,000
