ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The essential duties and responsibilities of this position are listed below. This list is not all inclusive and may be amended by Northstar, from time to time.
- Initiative and integrity: Highly diversified work on expensive parts. Set up usually pre-engineered but tools must be set to specs. Maintain close tolerances and rigid finish requirements. Must understand NC/CNC machine controls and be able to edit and modify programs if necessary.
- Responsibility: Improper set up or operation could cause damage to expensive equipment. Seldom over $5,000.00. Carelessness of set up or operation could result in excess scrap damage. Seldom over $5,000.00. Only reasonable care. May assist a less experienced operator occasionally but normally is responsible only for own work.
- Working conditions: Somewhat disagreeable working conditions due to exposure to coolants, chips, etc.
- Unavoidable hazards: May crush fingers or toes in handling work – eye injuries, etc. Exposure to lost time accidents minor in nature.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Physical demands: Moderate physical effort working with clumsy parts. Occasionally heavy tooling, moving workloads to and from machine.
- Mental or visual demand: Must concentrate mental and visual attention closely in setting up machine to rigid specs and in inspection of complex parts.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Education Requirements: Read and interpret complicated prints and drawings. Use decimals, fractions, simple geometry and occasionally trigonometry. Use large variety of precision measuring equipment such as large inside and outside micrometers, dial bore gages and height Vernier. Equivalent to 4 years high school plus 4 years shop training. - Experience Required: Over 5 years on a wide variety of milling, drilling and boring work and operational exposure to machining centers.
