· Maintain all Helena Indian Alliance administration and clinic offices by:

o Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.

o Gather and empty trash.

o Service, clean and supply restrooms twice daily.

o Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.

o Disinfect door handles, furniture, etc.

o Clean windows, glass partitions and mirrors using soapy water, cleaners, sponges and squeegees.

o Make adjustments and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilation, plumbing, and electrical systems.

o Steam clean or shampoo carpets

o Strip, seal, finish and polish floors.

o Maintain a regular daily schedule to ensure all work areas are cleaned, maintain HIA grounds in a neat, attractive manner and provide timely repairs.

o Assist administration with volunteers that are on the property

o Other duties pertinent to HIA maintenance as assigned by direct supervisor

· Performs the following work activities:

o Handling and moving objects – using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things.

o Repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment – servicing, repairing, adjusting, and testing machines, devices, moving parts, and equipment that operate primarily on the basis of mechanical (not electronic) principles.

o Controlling machines and processes – Using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes (not including computers or vehicles).

· Provide backup for client transportation or errands.

· Promote and support HIA through other activities in fundraising, professional representation, public appearances

· Attend monthly staff meetings and education and training opportunities

· Additional duties as assigned by supervisor and/or Executive Director

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILIITES, AND USE OF EQUIPMENT

· Routine equipment maintenance – Performing and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.

· Repairing machines or systems using the necessary tools.

· Ability to troubleshoot and determine causes of operation errors and deciding the course of action for repair.

· Basic computer skills and word processing applications

· Strong communication skills and teamwork.

· Must have a flexible schedule for on-call situations.

· Must be able to assist with events during weekends and or after-hours

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED OR DESIRED)

  • Completion of eighth grade
  • Janitorial or housekeeping experience
  • Maintenance experience preferred

· Current certification in CPR with AED. May complete within 3 months of employment

· Valid Montana Driver’s License with a driving record that will allow coverage on the center’s insurance policy.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is performed in a medical and behavioral health office and clinic setting; sitting, with intermittent standing and walks; reaches for and uses writing instruments and keyboard; reads reports and other written materials; extensive use of telephone and oral communication with the public and coworkers; stoops, bends, kneels, reaches for, picks up, and pushes or pulls; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Will particularly move objects using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things. Other general physical activities performed that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crawling and handling of materials. Must be comfortable working on a ladder or lift; wearing a respirator mask; operating lawn equipment; wearing a safety harness for heights; and working with chemicals.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

All employees of Helena Indian Alliance may have contact with patients, families, visitors that may be physically debilitated, have mental or psychological conditions, or may be under the influence of a substance. Employees work areas include the entire facility and its property. Employees will have interaction with the entire staff throughout the facility. Will at times travel off-site for transportation needs, purchases, pick-ups and deliveries. Will work with outside vendors and contractors on a regular basis.

HAZARDS ASSOCIATED TO THE JOB

All employees of Helena Indian Alliance have a risk of exposure to communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, and toxic substances and chemicals. All employees have a risk of physical injury due to lifting, transferring or moving objects or assisting patients. Employees with driving privileges are at risk of a motor vehicle accident. Will be in contact with machinery, equipment, tools, electrical, plumbing, and construction materials on a regular basis that could cause injury.
