What are the responsibilities and job description for the Photographer position at Helen Hayes Hospital?
Under the direction of the Director of Public Relations, the
Photographer 2 plans and executes photography and videography assignments
throughout the hospital and surrounding campus. The Photographer 2 supports the functions of the Public Relations
Department by capturing, editing, and preparing photographs and video content
for use in hospital publications, advertisements, websites, social media
platforms, presentations, and other communication materials. The position plays an important role in
visually documenting the hospital’s programs, services, staff, patients, and
special events to support marketing, public relations, and educational
initiatives. Work includes staging and
capturing professional-quality images and video of patients (with appropriate
consent), staff, rehabilitation therapies, hospital facilities, and community
outreach activities.
The Photographer 2 edits and processes images and video
using professional editing software to ensure appropriate color balance,
composition, lighting, and formatting for various media applications. The
incumbent prepares images for publication in print and digital formats
including newsletters, brochures, advertising materials, and web and social
media content. Additional
responsibilities include maintaining and organizing digital photo and video
archives; managing photography equipment; coordinating photo sessions with
hospital staff and departments; ensuring proper patient consent and compliance
with privacy regulations; and assisting with the visual design needs of the
Public Relations Department. Will also assist
with short-form video production, including filming interviews, documenting
patient stories, and producing promotional or educational videos for internal
and external audiences.
Requirements
Two years of experience in commercial or institutional
photography including taking, developing and printing photographs, and using
and maintaining darkroom equipment.
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:
Experience
photographing in healthcare, rehabilitation, nonprofit, or institutional
environments
- Proficiency
in professional photography and video editing software (e.g., Adobe
Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Lightroom, and Premiere Pro)
- Experience
producing photography and video content for digital media, websites, and
social media platforms
- Experience
managing digital asset libraries and organizing large photo archives
- Strong
interpersonal and communication skills for coordinating photo sessions
with hospital staff, patients, and leadership
