Position Summary

The CNC Machine & Shop Maintenance Technician is a hands-on support position responsible for helping maintain CNC and conventional machine tools, managing machine coolant and fluids, maintaining shop cleanliness, performing general equipment and facility maintenance, and providing occasional boring-machine support.

The ideal candidate is dependable, mechanically inclined, and brings a strong, positive attitude and willingness to help wherever needed. This position requires someone who takes pride in maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized manufacturing environment and is comfortable performing a wide variety of hands-on tasks.

Primary Responsibilities

CNC Machine & Coolant Support

  • Monitor CNC machines during production and identify abnormal operating conditions, leaks, or maintenance needs.
  • Check and maintain machine coolant, lubrication, hydraulic fluid, and other fluid levels.
  • Mix and add coolant to maintain appropriate concentration levels.
  • Test and monitor coolant concentration and condition.
  • Drain, pump out, clean, flush, and refill machine coolant systems.
  • Perform scheduled and as-needed coolant changes.
  • Remove tramp oil, chips, sludge, and other contamination from machine sumps and coolant tanks.
  • Clean and maintain coolant pumps, screens, strainers, filters, hoses, and related components.
  • Replace filters and other routine maintenance items as required.
  • Assist with proper collection, recycling, and disposal of used coolant and fluids.
  • Identify and report coolant, oil, hydraulic, lubrication, or other machine leaks.

Machine & Shop Cleaning

  • Perform routine cleaning of CNC machines, conventional machines, and other manufacturing equipment.
  • Clean machine interiors, enclosures, tables, guarding, chip pans, sumps, and accessible machine components.
  • Remove accumulated chips, coolant residue, oil, sludge, and debris from machines.
  • Clean chip conveyors, chip collection areas, screens, and related equipment.
  • Perform deeper machine cleaning during scheduled maintenance or coolant changes.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean floors and work areas throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Clean oil and coolant spills promptly and safely.
  • Empty chip containers, trash containers, and other shop waste as required.
  • Maintain clean and organized maintenance, tooling, and storage areas.
  • Assist with periodic larger-scale shop cleaning and organization projects.
  • Take ownership of maintaining a clean, orderly, and safe shop environment.

Preventative Maintenance & Equipment Support

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on CNC machines, conventional machine tools, and other shop equipment.
  • Lubricate equipment and maintain way oil, grease points, hydraulic oil, and other machine fluids.
  • Inspect equipment for leaks, wear, loose components, damaged hoses, abnormal noises, and other potential problems.
  • Replace basic wear items, hoses, filters, fittings, and similar components when appropriate.
  • Perform basic mechanical repairs and adjustments within the employee's capabilities.
  • Assist with troubleshooting machine and equipment problems.
  • Coordinate with or assist outside service technicians when specialized repairs are required.
  • Maintain basic preventative maintenance and service records.
  • Communicate developing equipment problems to management.

Boring & Conventional Machining

  • Operate boring equipment as production requirements dictate.
  • Perform boring-machine setups and machining using established processes, drawings, and instructions.
  • Verify dimensions using appropriate measuring instruments.
  • Perform basic adjustments to tooling and setups within the employee's level of experience.
  • Maintain boring and conventional machining equipment in clean and serviceable condition.

General Shop & Facility Support

  • Perform general maintenance and minor repairs throughout the manufacturing facility.
  • Assist with basic mechanical, plumbing, pneumatic, and facility-related repairs.
  • Maintain shop tools, equipment, maintenance supplies, and storage areas.
  • Assist with machinery and equipment installation, relocation, cleaning, and setup.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes and lift trucks for movement of equipment, materials, tooling, and other shop items.
  • Perform basic painting, assembly, repair, and shop-improvement projects as needed.
  • Identify maintenance, housekeeping, and safety concerns and bring them to management's attention.
  • Assist outside contractors performing equipment or facility repairs.
  • Perform other maintenance, cleaning, and general shop-support duties as required.

Qualifications Required

  • Strong, positive attitude and willingness to assist wherever needed.
  • Dependable, responsible, and able to work effectively with others.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving ability.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, machining, maintenance, or similar industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with CNC and/or conventional machine tools.
  • Comfort working with machine coolant, lubricants, oils, pumps, filters, and related systems.
  • Ability and willingness to perform routine machine and shop cleaning as a regular part of the position.
  • Ability to safely use common hand and power tools.
  • Ability to safely operate or be trained and authorized to operate overhead cranes and lift trucks.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple shop-support responsibilities.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety, cleanliness, and organization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CNC or conventional machine-tool experience.
  • Experience with machine coolant systems, including mixing, testing, draining, cleaning, and replacement.
  • Experience operating boring mills or similar conventional equipment.
  • Industrial maintenance or machine-maintenance experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, or basic electrical systems.
  • Experience performing preventative maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous overhead crane and lift-truck experience.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, push, pull, and work in and around manufacturing equipment.
  • Ability to perform physical cleaning, maintenance, and material-handling activities throughout the workday.
  • Ability to safely operate overhead cranes and lift trucks following company procedures and required training/authorization.
  • Ability to work safely around industrial coolants, lubricants, oils, metal chips, and cleaning products while using appropriate personal protective equipment.

We are looking for someone who takes pride in keeping equipment and the shop clean and well maintained, is comfortable performing routine cleaning and coolant management, can handle basic mechanical and maintenance responsibilities, and is willing to step in wherever needed.

This is a varied, hands-on position for someone who enjoys being active throughout the day and contributing to the overall operation of a manufacturing facility.

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
