Hegira Health, Inc. HHI is one of Michigan’s largest freestanding, integrated behavioral health care organizations, providing a wide variety of mental health and substance use disorder treatment services to individuals of all ages since 1971.

Oakdale Recovery Center (ORC) - provides withdrawal management and short-term residential treatment services to adults with substance use disorders, many whom have mental health disorders as well.

The Medical Assistant is responsible for supporting the admissions process and providing clinical assistance within the Recovery Center. This serves as an integral member of the interdisciplinary treatment team and functions in both administrative and clinical capacities. The Medical Assistant serves as a primary point of contact for individuals entering treatment and helps create a welcoming, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Summary)

Admissions and Intake

  • Welcome and assist consumers, families, referral sources, and visitors.
  • Conduct admission interviews and obtain medical and behavioral health information.
  • Complete admission paperwork, releases of information, and required consent forms.
  • Verify and document consumer information within the EHR.
  • Coordinate admissions with nursing, medical, and clinical staff.
  • Track admissions, discharges, transfers, and bed availability.
  • Communicate admission status updates to treatment team members and referral sources.

Clinical Support

  • Obtain and document vital signs.
  • Collect and document laboratory specimens and urine drug screens.
  • Monitor and report abnormal findings.
  • Assist with intake medical assessments and coordination of care activities.
  • Support nursing and medical staff in delivering quality care.
  • Ensure examination, medication, and nursing areas remain organized and adequately stocked.

Consumer Engagement

  • Demonstrate trauma-informed, recovery-oriented, and person-centered care principles.
  • Encourage consumer participation in treatment and recovery activities.
  • Support medication adherence and consumer understanding of treatment recommendations.
  • Utilize motivational interviewing and engagement techniques when interacting with consumers.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the EHR.
  • Process incoming and outgoing medical records, laboratory results, and provider communications.
  • Monitor admission and medication-related documentation for completeness.
  • Assist with chart audits and quality improvement activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One or more years healthcare experience.
  • Medical Assistant Certification or graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, residential treatment, recovery services, or a related setting preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
