Under the direction of the Senior IT Systems Administrator (SSA), the Junior IT Systems Administrator (JSA) is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and enhancing the effectiveness of IT infrastructure for the Lucky Friday. The JSA provides essential support to employees, addressing and resolving technical issues related to hardware, software, and network systems. This role is crucial in ensuring that the IT systems at the Lucky Friday are secure, efficient, and supportive of the organization’s overall goals. This individual ensures that system hardware, operating systems, software systems, and related procedures adhere to organizational values, enabling staff, vendors, and partners to fully utilize Hecla and Lucky Friday IT systems.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Monitor and manage IT assets, ensuring all equipment is up-to-date and functioning correctly.
• Responsible for the onboarding and separation of employment processes including setting up systems for new employees and revoking access as requested.
• Maintain existing IT documentation.
• Assist with deployment and support of technical solutions for various project and operational needs.
• Contribute to and maintain system standards, protocols, performance metrics, and training.
• Collaborate with other on-site and remote support staff under the guidance of senior technical staff to achieve organizational and project goals.
• Assist users by troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking difficulties.
• Assist senior staff with the deployment and documentation of new systems, procedures, and solutions conducive to the continued technical development of the organization. May conduct user-facing IT training.
• Install, configure, and maintain desktops, laptops, printers, networking components, and mobile devices.
• At the direction of the SSA, analyze Lucky Friday systems to determine current and future needs.
• Assist senior staff by helping to ensure reliable and sustainable backup procedures and operations.
• System patching: Patch servers, networking components, and workstations as assigned with software updates, managing relevant downtime communications with all internal stakeholders.
• Install, maintain, provide support, and troubleshoot fiber optic and copper network interfaces.
• Work in all areas of the site as needed to support the Lucky Friday operation, including the concentrator, maintenance shops, and underground work areas, to troubleshoot and deploy new technologies.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- 2-4 Years of Post-Secondary Education or a combination of relevant experience & combined IT certifications.
- Minimum 2 years of reliable IT work experience preferred.
- Relevant certifications with Juniper and Microsoft are preferred.
- Prior IT experience at a mine or similar industrial site is preferred.
