Tower Crane Operator
Overview:
The Tower Crane Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating tower cranes on commercial and industrial construction projects throughout Maine. This position plays a key role in lifting, moving, and placing materials and equipment on large-scale job sites while ensuring adherence to all safety standards, company policies, and project timelines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate tower cranes to lift, move, position, and place materials and equipment as directed by site supervision.
- Conduct daily crane inspections and complete all required safety documentation before use.
- Maintain awareness of load capacities, swing radius, and weather conditions that may affect crane operation.
- Follow OSHA, NCCCO, and company safety protocols at all times.
- Participate in daily job-site safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in and around the crane.
Qualifications:
- Required: NCCCO or equivalent Tower Crane Operator Certification.
- Required: Valid driver’s license; CDL preferred but not required.
- Preferred: Minimum 3 years of experience operating tower cranes on commercial construction projects.
- Strong understanding of lift plans, rigging, and signaling practices.
- Excellent communication and situational awareness.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and at heights.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to company policies.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating the crane.
- Must have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Must possess adequate vision and hearing (corrective devices permitted) to safely operate equipment and communicate via radio.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs as needed for maintenance or setup.
- Must be able to tolerate heights and work outdoors in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, etc.).
- Ability to maintain balance and awareness when working at elevated levels.
- Must be physically able to enter, exit, and perform inspections of crane components.
