Heather Gardens Association, an established and thriving 55 active adult community in Aurora, Colorado, is seeking an experienced Security Manager to lead our dedicated Security Department. Position Summary
The Security Manager is responsible for the safety and welfare of Heather Gardens’ residents, guests, and employees, as well as the protection of property and enforcement of community covenants. This is an on-site, uniformed leadership position requiring professionalism, visibility, and strong interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Oversight
Supervise, train, and evaluate Security Officers to ensure professional performance.
Respond to incidents and emergencies; assume command until police or medical personnel arrive.
Oversee daily patrols, access control, and key management.
Review and approve incident, accident, and investigation reports.
Prepare reports and coordinate with law enforcement as needed.
Community Engagement & Policy Enforcement
Partner with the General Manager, Board, and Security Committee on safety initiatives and covenant enforcement.
Provide security education and presentations to residents or building groups.
Serve as a positive, professional ambassador for the community.
Safety & Risk Management
Lead Heather Gardens’ Safety Program in partnership with HR and other departments.
Maintain the Safety Manual, Hazardous Materials Safety Manual, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
Conduct inspections and monitor accident prevention and loss control measures.
Systems & Technology
Oversee the installation and maintenance of security systems, including cameras, alarms, and access controls.
Ensure technology remains current and operational to support safety goals.
Essential Skills & Competencies
Thorough knowledge of modern law enforcement and safety principles.
Working knowledge of local laws, ordinances, and community geography.
Proficiency in use of firearms and operation of security vehicles.
Excellent judgment, calm under pressure, and strong communication skills.
Ability to supervise, train, and motivate a team while fostering collaboration.
Professional demeanor with residents, employees, and public agencies.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Safety, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Minimum 5 years of law enforcement, military, or security management experience.
Completion of a certified Peace Officer Training Academy (preferred).
Current Colorado Concealed Handgun Permit and demonstrated firearm proficiency.
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
Must pass background and drug screening.
Must be able to lift up to 75 lbs, climb stairs/ladders, and operate a vehicle.
