Description

Are you an experienced welder who enjoys helping others learn the trade? Heartland Community College is looking for a welding professional who wants to bring their industry experience into the classroom and help prepare the next generation of skilled workers.

As a full-time Welding faculty member in Heartland’s Career and Technical Education division, you will teach hands-on welding courses and work directly with students as they develop the skills they need for employment and advancement in the industry. We are looking for someone who knows the trade, values safety, and can connect what students learn in the classroom and lab to the expectations they will encounter on the job.

Our welding instruction includes areas such as introductory welding, shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), gast tungsten arc welding (GTAW), pipe welding, fabrication, welding processes, blueprint reading, and related manufacturing topics. Teaching assignments will vary based on the faculty member’s experience and program needs.

This is an ongoing 9-month appointment from mid-August to mid-May. A start date in either January 2027 or August 2027 will be considered.

Responsibilities

The primary duty of faculty members is to teach. In addition to teaching, class preparation, grading, and holding office hours, general responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Create a learning environment that fosters student success and the attainment of defined learning outcomes
  • Participate in developing and reviewing curricula and instructional methods
  • Assist in the articulation of courses within the division
  • Develop, integrate, and evaluate student learning outcomes within the framework of the Heartland Community College assessment protocols
  • Remain current in one's discipline
  • Advocate for student persistence and pathways to completion through cooperation with Student Success and Enrollment Services staff
  • Manage student issues and problems in a manner consistent with the Student Handbook
  • Serve the institution in a variety of ways; examples of service activity include, but are not limited to, participation on teams and committees, assistance with marketing and recruitment events, and promotion of a collegial work environment
  • Participate in program review

The hired individual may be expected to teach a range of courses as assigned.

Full-time faculty are responsible for teaching courses and supporting student achievement, developing curriculum for the Industrial Technology program, working with local employers, and contributing to departmental and College-wide initiatives.

Requirements

Applicants are not required to have a formal degree, but should have a minimum of 2000 hours of successful work experience in the field, as well as the ability to teach a wide range of Industrial Technology courses in areas such as welding, metals, and manufacturing. Candidates must be able to work inclusively with diverse populations of students, employees, and those external to the College.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous teaching, training, mentoring, or apprenticeship instruction experience
  • Formal education or technical training in welding, manufacturing, or a related field
  • Relevant industry certifications or credentials
  • Completion of a registered apprenticeship or other structured industry training program
  • Experience with multiple welding processes and fabrication techniques
  • Experience working with employers, apprentices, or individuals preparing to enter the skilled trades
