Ensures services for individuals with mental illness or substance use disorder and who are involved in criminal justice system, are provided assessments and necessary follow up by Regional Jail Diversion or SB 292 teams. Oversight of Regional Jail Diversion team, which provide services in Hill, Bosque, Falls, Limestone, and Freestone County jails and community. Work involves ensuring services provided meet the standards of contracts, agency, and other funding standards. Also provides, participates in community collaborations and meetings related to jail diversion initiatives. Works under moderate supervision of the Director of Behavioral Health Justice-Involved Programs with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement in carrying out details of the work.


EXAMPLE OF WORK PERFORMED
  • Supervises (5) staff assigned to the Regional Jail Diversion or the SB 292 Program.
  • Identifies and screens individuals in the legal system for mental illness.
  • Provides on-site assessments and develops intervention.
  • Provides crisis support as deemed necessary.
  • Coordinates referrals and case management.
  • Provides continuity of care services with area jails.
  • Prepares progress notes and other required documentation.
  • Advocates with legal entities for people with mental illness.
  • Provides reports for court as requested.
  • Appear in court to advocate for individuals as requested.
Experience:
Requires successful experience in providing mental health services for people with severe and persistent mental illnesses, a working knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis, psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention. Prefer experience and training related to justice involved individuals and their needs as well as Sequential Intercept Mapping concepts. Must have experience in managing program area, managing budget, develop policy and procedures, and ability to do performance evaluations.
One year case management preferred.
Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree or master’s degree with a major in behavioral or social sciences, humanities, or education. Master’s degree preferred.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of jail standards, judicial system process, and judicial procedures is necessary.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and emotional components of physical illness such as psychiatric screening, psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention.
  • Excellent communications skills both verbal and written.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Must have knowledge to do clinical documentation accurately and timely.
  • Able to effectively testify in court and prepare court reports as needed.
  • Considerable ability to work cooperatively and effectively with professional personnel (i.e. jail staff, etc.) to exercise tact, initiate good judgement in dealing with consumers and families, to prepare reports and make recommendations to attorneys, judges, jail administration, to speak and write effectively, to relate to people, and interact with consumers.
  • Must have valid driver's license and travel locally 10% and Regionally 90%.
  • Must have and maintain a level of general health that permits the performance of the job duties and ability to maintain regular attendance as set forth in Center policies and procedures.
  • Ability to physically perform CPR, First Aid and PMAB certification.
Salary: $60,000.00
