Licensed Veterinary Technician – Surgery & Dentistry

We are looking for an exceptional New York State Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our Brooklyn and Manhattan surgical and dental teams.

Your Main Duties Look Like This

Client Communication

Our LVTs are an important part of the relationship between our medical team and our clients.

• Communicate with clients with empathy, confidence, professionalism, and warmth.
• Explain procedures, anesthesia, medications, recovery, dental care, and home-care instructions.
• Review treatment plans, estimated costs, and available options according to hospital protocols.
• Help clients understand the value and purpose of recommended care.
• Answer questions within your scope and appropriately involve the veterinarian when needed.
• Provide clear discharge instructions and ensure client understanding.
• Help every client feel informed, supported, and confident in their pet’s care.

Surgical & Anesthesia Responsibilities

• Prepare and assess patients for anesthetic procedures, including soft tissue surgery, COHATs, sedation.
• Place/manage IV catheters and assist with fluids and medications.
• Prepare surgical suites, instruments, equipment, and medications.
• Assist veterinarians during surgical procedures.
• Induce, maintain, and continuously monitor anesthesia under veterinary supervision.
• Monitor ECG, SpO₂, ETCO₂, blood pressure, temperature, respiratory rate, heart rate, and anesthetic depth as appropriate.
• Recognize and communicate changes in patient condition.
• Provide postoperative monitoring, pain management, and recovery care.
• Maintain accurate patient records.

Dental Responsibilities

• Prepare and monitor patients undergoing dental procedures.
• Provide anesthesia monitoring throughout dental procedures and recovery.
• Prepare and maintain dental equipment and instruments.
• Perform dental radiography and positioning.
• Assist with dental charting, oral examinations, scaling, polishing, and periodontal assessment as permitted within NYS scope and under appropriate veterinary supervision.
• Clean, sterilize, and maintain dental instruments.
• Provide postoperative nursing care and assist with client education.
• Maintain accurate dental and anesthesia records.

Surgical Support & Patient Care

• Prepare surgical packs and instruments.
• Clean, inspect, package, wrap, sterilize, and properly store instruments.
• Maintain surgical inventory.
• Clean and disinfect surgical areas and equipment between procedures.
• Ensure instruments, supplies, and equipment are ready for the next procedure.
• Prepare patients for discharge and review veterinarian-directed discharge instructions with clients.
• Communicate postoperative concerns to the veterinarian.
• Maintain organized treatment, surgical, and recovery areas.

What You Need

• Current New York State LVT license required.
• RVT/CVT candidates from another state may be considered if they are eligible and willing to obtain NYS LVT licensure; employment in the LVT role is contingent upon appropriate NYS authorization.
• Have at least 1 year of veterinary hospital experience.
• Surgical or dental experience is preferred, but supplemental training will be provided.
• Flexible schedule, occasional weekends.
• Excellent attention to detail, communication, teamwork, and clinical judgment.
• Ability to remain calm, organized, and efficient in a busy surgical environment.
• Willingness to take ownership and continually develop clinical skills.
• A positive, collaborative attitude and genuine desire to serve patients, clients, and teammates.
