The Cardiac Monitor Technician is responsible for monitoring, recording, interpreting, and documenting electrocardiographic (ECG) tracings of patients using event and telemetry monitoring systems. This position ensures accurate detection of arrhythmias, communicates findings promptly to providers and staff, and maintains organized and confidential patient records. The technician supports both patient care and clinic operations by maintaining monitoring equipment, ensuring data integrity, and providing education to patients on monitor use.
Must hold current CCT, and/or CNA/MA license.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates cardiac monitoring systems, including ECG rhythm screens and computerized dysrhythmia detection software.
- Observes, interprets, and documents ECG rhythms according to established protocols.
- Recognizes and promptly reports life-threatening arrhythmias or abnormal cardiac activity to the appropriate provider or staff member.
- Monitors, sanitizes, and maintains all cardiac monitoring equipment for multiple clinic locations.
- Organizes and orders cardiac monitoring supplies and related materials.
- Monitors alerts, troubleshoots faulty equipment, and educates patients on the proper setup and use of monitors.
- Assists in rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia detection; labels urgent rhythm strips with pertinent data such as episode length, medications, and next provider follow-up.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date patient logs and detailed records of monitoring activity.
- Logs, scans, prints, and delivers End of Summary (EOS) reports to the appropriate provider in a timely manner.
- Reviews patient data and follows up with patients regarding reported symptoms or irregular findings.
- Documents all patient interactions, urgent notifications, and missed appointments in the EMR.
- Performs 12-lead EKGs for outside provider patients as needed.
- Verifies insurance coverage, deductibles, and prior authorizations before assigning patient devices.
- Performs general office duties including answering phones, returning voicemails, managing correspondence between locations, scheduling appointments, typing, and maintaining patient records and reports.
- Coordinates meetings with monitoring representatives and manages both patient and monitor databases.
- Maintains strict confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- EKG/CRAT certification or seven (7) years of equivalent experience preferred.
Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in cardiac rhythm monitoring and direct patient care.
Licensure / Certification
- Must hold current ECG, CRAT, CCT, and/or CNA/MA license.
- BLS certification required.
Technical Training
- Knowledge of cardiac anatomy and physiology, particularly the heart’s conduction system.
