JOB DESCRIPTION HEARD COUNTY SCHOOLS: Reading Intervention Teacher (49%)
FLSA: Exempt |
REPORTS TO: Principal
DEGREE/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Clear, valid Georgia Teacher Certificate (P-12), experience teaching reading.
JOB OBJECTIVES: The reading intervention teacher boosts literacy by providing targeted, evidence-based, small-group instruction to students reading below grade level by performing the following duties and responsibilities:
- Instruction: Deliver high-quality, systematic reading intervention to individual or small groups of students to improve phonics, fluency, and comprehension.
- Data & Assessment: Administer diagnostic assessments, analyze literacy data, and maintain documentation to monitor progress and adjust instruction.
- Collaboration: Work with classroom teachers, special education staff, and administrators to support the school-wide literacy program, including MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) frameworks.
- Support & Strategy: Identify reading weaknesses and match students with appropriate research-based interventions.
- Communication: Inform parents of student progress and reading goals
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification: Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) Teaching Certificate in elementary education (P-5), reading, or special education.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in reading, literacy, or education is preferred/
- Experience: Previous classroom teaching experience, particularly in reading or literacy coaching, is highly desirable.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of the Science of Reading and structured literacy principles is increasingly required. LETRS certification or other Science of Reading certification preferred.
