Director of Education and Community Outreach

Healthy Climate Communities – Kailua, HI

Full-Time | $54,000–$72,000 per year


The Director will lead our thriving K–12 science and ʻāina-based

education programs, as well as our volunteer stewardship events.

School field trips and volunteer events will be conducted at the

beautiful community native forestry site at Hāmākua Marsh State

Wildlife Sanctuary in collaboration with experienced site staff.

Existing or new curriculum will be used to conduct educational

workshops at participating schools, and to conduct on-line teacher training in

collaboration with the Executive Director. Other work will be remote.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, schedule and host science-focused K–12 workshops

and field trips, and volunteer stewardship events.

• Improve existing and develop new NGSS-aligned curriculum and

climate change educational materials.

• Administer Hawaiʻi DOE for-credit professional development programs for educators.

• Market educational programs and volunteer opportunities.

• Build relationships with schools, teachers, community organizations, and volunteers.

• Take photos and create content for social media and organizational outreach.

• Attend conferences and professional events to represent Healthy Climate Communities.


Qualifications


Required:

• Experience teaching K–12 students.

• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple projects.

• Ability to use, or willingness to learn, google docs, sheets and forms, social media

platforms, and Canva.

• Ability to work outdoors, occasionally traverse steep or uneven terrain, and to lift 20 lbs.


Preferred:

• Hawaii teaching license or credential.

• Experience teaching science.

• Knowledge of Native Hawaiian culture.
