Produce Manager

In addition, they share their product knowledge and enthusiasm with our customers by answering any questions, assisting with product suggestions, and educating on the products we sell.

The Job

The Produce Manager has the co-responsibility with the Assistant Store Manager and Area Manager to meet projected sales and profitability goals. Providing strong day to day leadership of staffing to achieve sales initiatives, merchandising goals, expense control, and overall financial and operational performance of their department. While also providing a safe and compelling shopping experience and working environment for our customers and associates.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manages department inventories by tracking weekly sales reports and orders product and supplies so as to meet customer requirements and the company’s gross profit goals.
• Receive produce deliveries and oversee receiving, following established receiving procedures.
• Sets up and creates displays for new and seasonal items as well as items that are tied-in with other department promotions, in order to meet the sales and profit objectives of the store and the department.
• Prepares, maintains and tracks all types of records concerning inventories to calculate gross monthly profits according to company guidelines.
• Follows established departmental procedures for receiving merchandise including inspecting the product when delivered, pricing the product and restocking cases to insure freshness and quality, accuracy and product rotation.
• Controls department expenses by improving operations and efficiencies, by controlling labor costs and by reducing losses due to shrinkage.
• Assist customers with produce questions and special orders. Offer samples and suggestions for purchase and preparation in a friendly, courteous manner.
• Maintains effective housekeeping program. Keeps merchandise clean and fresh so as to meet all health department regulations, pass sanitation inspections and meet company standards.
• Ensures that associates work and operate equipment in a safe manner at all times, complying with OSHA requirements. Insures compliance with local, state and government weights and measures laws.
• Identifies areas in the Produce Department where improvement in customer service is required, then implements changes and procedures to address these needs.
• Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

• Supervises all associates in Produce Department.
• Minimum one closing shift per week.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a retail business environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items that weigh more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Skills:

• Previous grocery Produce managerial experience of 3 years.
• Good leadership skills to direct the work of others.
• Strong oral and written communication skills for dealing with customers, associates and vendors, above average analytical skills to understand and interpret various reports.
• Knowledge of MS Office Suite of products, including excel spreadsheets.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in normal store environment where there is limited physical discomfort, although goes into refrigerated sections for inventory stocking and retrieval. Interacts with customers and associates daily.
