The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a key role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Activities of Daily Living (ADL) Support

• Provide transportation to appointments, activities, and community events.
• Assist in implementing individual care plans and behavioral goals.
• Encourage participation in social networks and community activities.
• Support clients with personal care (e.g., bathing, grooming, dressing, and feeding).
• Help with meal preparation according to dietary needs and encourage clients to assist where possible.
• Promote and teach household skills (e.g., laundry, cleaning, dishwashing).
• Ensure the home environment is clean, safe, and organized while encouraging participation in upkeep.

Communication and Interpersonal Support

• Build trusting relationships with clients and foster dignity and respect.
• Communicate effectively with clients, their families, and other team members.
• Be empathetic, attentive, and responsive to clients’ needs and behavioral changes.
• Stay calm under pressure, especially during emergencies or unexpected health changes.
• Assist with scheduling and organizing client appointments and activities.

Health and Safety Responsibilities

• Administer and document medications according to prescribed schedules.
• Monitor clients for health or behavioral changes following medication administration.
• Maintain a safe environment by following safety protocols and reporting any concerns.
• Provide physical assistance (e.g., transferring clients in and out of bed) as needed.
• Be prepared to work during holidays and inclement weather.

Documentation and Reporting

• Maintain accurate daily logs and progress notes detailing support provided.
• Record and report on medications administered and any changes in health or behavior.
• Regularly update healthcare providers and follow treatment plans.

Job Requirements

• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• 6 months – 2 years experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities (preferred).
• Ability to lift/push/pull 50 lbs and assist with mobility.
• Willingness to work holidays and during inclement weather.
• Strong interpersonal skills with compassion and integrity.
• Trustworthiness and dependability to foster safe, comfortable environments for clients.

Qualifications

• Core skills in caregiving, including patient care and assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs)
• Premium skills in first aid, patient observation, and working in group home or assisted living settings
• Experience in long-term care and social work beneficial
• Valid driver's license required for transporting individuals
• Ability to work with individuals with disabilities and developmental disabilities
• Familiarity with creating and implementing care plans

Pay: $18.00 - $19.59 per hour
