POSITION SUMMARY

The Trauma Data Lead is responsible for the overall lifecycle of data management for the Trauma Program at Holmes Regional Medical Center (HRMC) including Acute Care Surgery performed by the trauma providers. The Trauma Data Lead oversees the Trauma and Injury quality outcome databases as required by the State of Florida and the American College of Surgeons, acting as the lead registrar for training, report preparation and presentation.

 

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Coordinates the abstraction of trauma registry data for all trauma patients at HRMC and all injury patients across the Integrated Delivery Network (IDN) ensuring accurate, real-time data collection that complies with standards and regulations for trauma center accreditation.
  2. Collaborates with the Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Medical Director and Trauma PI Coordinator to determine opportunities for improvement based on benchmarked performance.
  3. Provides education to providers on a regular basis, based on opportunities identified in the data registries and outcomes or changes to documentation requirements.
  4. Overseas the onboarding and training of Trauma Registrars to ensure maximum utilization of resources, group capabilities, and data management compliance with state and federal requirements for Level II Trauma Program.
  5. Maintains knowledge of all rules, regulations, laws and guidelines that impact or govern the Trauma Registry to ensure that HRMC is in compliance.
  6. Prepares data reports for trauma cases, Trauma Program leadership, TQM, TPIC and other committees as requested.
  7. Prepares reports on trauma populations and performs data searches for educational purposes, performance and system improvement activities, and other related projects.
  8. Participates as the data subject matter expert in process improvement, patient safety, injury prevention and outreach activities.


Work Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Associate Degree in related field with strong emphasis on data integrity and analysis.
  • Certification: 
  1. Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry (CSTR) by the American Trauma Society or within 6 months of hire
  2. OR Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) by the American Health Information Management Association.
  • Work Experience: At least eighteen (18) months of experience in a Level I or II Trauma Center as a Trauma Abstractor/Registrar or comparable position working with CV5 Registry Database and ACS Trauma Quality Improvement Program Database (TQIP).
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  1. Thorough knowledge of Level I or II Trauma Center designation requirements at either a state level or ACS, including site survey preparation and participation.
  2. Thorough knowledge of Trauma Coding (AIS/ISS and ICD-10).
  3. Demonstrated ability to produce informational data reports using Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  4. Effective oral communication skills including presentation and public speaking.
  5. Ability to partner and work collaboratively with stakeholders across all areas impacted by a Trauma Program.
  6. Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  7. Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, including ability to determine short-term and long-term solutions.
  8. Ability to maintain composure in fast-paced, and at time, high stress environment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in relatable field
  • Certification: Certified Abbreviated Injury Scaling Specialist (CAISS) by the Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine
  • Work Experience:
  1. Five (5) years of experience as a Trauma Registrar at a Level I or II Trauma Center
  2. Experience leading projects or teams
  3. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Experience working with the Next Generation Trauma Registry system for the National Trauma Data Bank.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Sedentary

  • Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, stooping.
  • Long periods of computer time or at workstation.
  • Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
  • May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
  • Workspace may vary from open to confined.
  • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
