At HFG, We Make Space for Care.

About the Role

As a Federal Interior Designer at HFG Architecture, a leading healthcare architecture firm, you will play a critical role in the delivery of interior environments for federal healthcare clients. You will work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to ensure that designs align with federal standards, while also supporting one of the firm's missions to elevate underserved healthcare environments through thoughtful, functional, and compliant design.

Key Responsibilities & Duties:

Client and Project Coordination:

  • Collaborate directly with federal clients to understand design requirements, operational needs, and compliance expectations.
  • Participate in client meetings, user group workshops, and design reviews with government stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with vendors, engineers, and project consultants to ensure integrated design delivery.

Design and Documentation:

  • Lead interior planning and design on federal healthcare projects from programming through construction administration.
  • Translate SEPS outputs into compliant, functional floor plans and FF&E layouts.
  • Prepare interior finish and furniture specifications in accordance with applicable criteria.
  • Ensure all documentation meets FGI Guidelines and federal procurement and design standards.
  • Contribute to material boards, presentation packages, and client deliverables.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with project architects, planners, and engineers to ensure cohesive and compliant interior design solutions.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary coordination meetings and internal design charrettes.
  • Mentor junior interior designers on federal project protocols and technical execution.

Project and Quality Management:

  • Oversee the planning and execution of projects to ensure high-quality, on-time, and onbudget delivery.
  • Maintain oversight of project schedules, budgets, and client communication.
  • Implement best practices to enhance efficiency, quality assurance, and client satisfaction.
  • Adhere to HFG standard processes, documentation styles, and other standardization initiatives (i.e. folder structure).

Travel Requirements:

  • This role includes occasional travel for project-related needs, including site visits, client meetings, or industry events.

Job Requirements
  • Professional degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or related field (Bachelor’s or Master’s required)
  • NCIDQ Certification
  • Minimum 5 years of healthcare interior design experience, and 10 years of general interior design experience
  • Have demonstrated experience successfully completing a range of medical facility projects, including inpatient, outpatient, dental, and specialty medical clinics
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare codes, ADA compliance, and FGI Guidelines
  • U.S. Citizenship (required for federal site access)
