Role Description The Assistant Interior Designer role is a full-time, on-site position based in Kansas City, MO. This team member supports lead designers with space planning, interior concepts, and FF&E selections for residential and commercial projects. Daily responsibilities include preparing design presentations, sourcing finishes and materials, updating specifications, and assisting with client meetings. The role involves developing and revising construction drawings, coordinating with architects, contractors, and vendors, and tracking project documentation. The Assistant Interior Designer also helps with site visits, field measurements, punch lists, and general project administration to ensure projects are delivered on time and aligned with design intent.
Qualifications
- Proficiency in Interior Design and Space Planning, with the ability to translate concepts into functional, aesthetically cohesive layouts.
- Experience or foundational knowledge in Architecture and Construction Drawings to support documentation, plans, elevations, and details.
- Hands-on experience with FF&E selection, including finishes, fixtures, and furnishings, and coordinating samples and specifications.
- Strong visual communication skills, including basic drafting and presentation skills (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or similar tools preferred).
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to support multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working with clients, team members, and vendors.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Knowledge of interior design trends, materials, and building codes is preferred; prior experience in a design studio or similar environment is a plus.
