Duties Description
The Supervising Licensed Practical Nurse will supervise Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Nursing Assistants, and unlicensed staff in the provision of patient care activities. They will provide nursing care in accordance with Article 139 of the Education Law, and monitor and report clinical issues requiring immediate intervention to higher-level clinical staff, including Registered Nurses and physicians.
The incumbent will be responsible for assigning staff basic patient care and observational tasks to support nursing care. Responsibilities include providing staff with patient care guidelines and training them in basic patient care activities; observe staff carrying out assignments to ensure that patient care standards are followed, and that care is provided in a responsive and appropriate manner. The incumbent will provide nursing care consistent with individual treatment plans and the LPN scope of practice to maintain health, prevent and cure illness and injury, and alleviate suffering using practical knowledge of disease processes and facility procedures.
The Supervising Licensed Practical Nurse will identify individuals’ responses to treatments, medication, and/or changes in health status, report responses to a Nurse 2 or physician, and address concerns or issues expressed by individuals, families, and staff, reporting to higher-level staff when necessary. In addition, they will maintain charts and other records of conditions and/or administered medications/treatments, attend to individuals' daily living and hygiene needs, talk to patients, and record and report their responses to obtain and provide information for diagnosis and treatment.
Minimum Qualifications
Promotion Provisional Appointment: In the absence of an eligible list with three or more candidates willing to accept a position, a provisional appointment may be considered. For provisional appointment, candidates must meet one of the following minimum qualifications: Be a current NYS Department of Health employee with one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service as a Licensed Practical Nurse and be licensed and currently registered as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State.

If there are three or fewer qualified candidates interested in the appointment to this position, a permanent appointment may be made pursuant to Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law. To be eligible, candidates must be an employee of the Department of Health Veterans Home at Oxford and have one year of permanent competitive service as a Licensed Practical Nurse and be licensed and currently registered as a Licensed Practical Nurse in New York State.
Posted salary range ($77,069 to $82,061) includes job rate for CSEA Grade 13, statutory hiring rate at step 4, geographic pay differential of $13,000, and downstate adjustment of $4,000.
