Role Overview

Technologists perform diagnostic procedures in nuclear medicine, including preparing and administering radiopharmaceuticals, operating imaging systems, and ensuring patient safety and proper identification. They respond to scheduled and emergency requests, educate patients, and document procedures accurately. Responsibilities include maintaining safety standards, managing radioactive materials, performing quality controls, and recording inventory and disposal of radioactive waste.

Key Duties

  • Prepare, administer, and record radiopharmaceutical doses following safety protocols.
  • Operate digital imaging equipment to acquire diagnostic data.
  • Assess patient condition, ensure safety, and facilitate proper patient preparation.
  • Maintain radiation safety by using shielding and adhering to regulations.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and manage inventory and radioactive waste.
  • Document procedures, doses, and patient information accurately in management systems.
  • Coordinate with healthcare staff to ensure smooth workflow and proper patient care.
  • Provide training and technical assistance to colleagues and trainees.
  • Maintain professional competence through ongoing education and compliance with licensing requirements.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Graduate of an accredited 4-year Bachelor or 2-year Nuclear Medicine program.
  • IEMA Licensed Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Knowledge of radioactivity, safety regulations, and equipment operation.
  • Proficiency in computer systems, radiopharmaceutical management, and patient care.
  • Ability to perform venipuncture and handle radioactive materials safely.

Physical & Working Conditions

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds and use patient handling equipment for heavier lifts.
  • Flexible to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts.
  • Capable of moving heavy equipment and responding promptly to patient needs in a fast-paced environment.
