Position Summary:
The Shelter Shift Supervisor is responsible for the oversight and supervision of an assigned shift. The Shelter Shift Supervisor ensures all assignments and staff assigned to him or her are in line with department and agency objectives and goals. This shelter supervisor is responsible for ensuring smooth and efficient operations for their assigned shift.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Organizes and oversees daily activities and tasks related to their shift.
Supports the department’s goals and objectives.
Aids in crisis de-escalation and performs staff check-ins following a crisis, referring staff to the Employee Assistance Program, as needed.
Develops sustainable goals for assigned staff.
Assist assigned staff with duties in the case of staffing gaps.
Work additional hours as needed.
Supports the Shelter Manager to improve operational efficiencies.
Supervise, manage, and delegate duties to assigned staff.
Assists and participates in interviewing department job applicants.
Assists and supports the on-the-job training efforts of new hires.
Responsible for ensuring employees manage their time well.
Responsible for performance planning and evaluation of assigned staff.
Ensures clients' needs are being met, and are offered appropriate services, support, and resources, and the agency is meeting their needs.
Actively looks for ways to improve operations and share ideas for best practices.
All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED and six (6) years of prior management and experience serving at-risk populations is required OR
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a social services-related field (i.e. psychology, social work, counseling, etc.) and prior management and experience serving at-risk populations is preferred.
Prior work experience supporting individuals experiencing homelessness is required.
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Must be able to act quickly and think strategically.
Ability to schedule and manage tasks effectively
Ability to motivate and encourage employees to achieve optimal performance.
Experience with conflict resolution and problem-solving skills
Ability to supervise staff with a high level of emotional intelligence.
Knowledge of trauma-informed service delivery.
Excellent computer and keyboarding skills.
Ability to meet strict deadlines.
Knowledge of area service providers and community resources.

Other Requirements
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Ability to navigate stairs, ladders, ramps, and uneven terrain.
Lifting a maximum of 25 pounds occasionally, and frequently lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
Must become CPR/First Aid trained within 90 days of hire.
