We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Swim Director for our Head-Royce School Summer Programs (Heads Up and HRS Summer Program). In this role, you will create a safe, supportive, and engaging environment where students can develop their swimming skills. You will be responsible for planning and supervising swim lessons, managing aquatics programs, and ensuring the overall safety of swimmers. The Swim Director will also lead a team of staff, provide emergency response when necessary, and ensure that all lessons align with program goals. A deep understanding of aquatic safety, effective instruction and training is essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
To be successful in this position, candidates must hold a current lifeguard certification and have experience working with elementary to middle school students in an aquatic setting. Previous experience supervising youth and young adults is required, with school-based or camp experience highly preferred. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills are essential, particularly in creating a safe and engaging aquatic environment while coordinating with staff, students, and families.
The physical demands of this position include the ability to stand for extended periods, actively monitor students in and around the pool, and respond quickly to emergencies. Candidates should be comfortable demonstrating swimming techniques, assisting students in the water, and maintaining a high level of attentiveness throughout swim sessions. CPR, First Aid, and water safety certification are required.

Responsibilities
- Schedule lessons for registered studentsInterview and hire qualified aquatics staff; instructors and coaches
- Be familiar with the Head Royce Emergency Action Plan
- Plan and conduct aquatics programs to promote self-esteem and encourage success
- Provide opportunities for each swimmer to meet the established goals of the aquatics program
- Understand and enforce all facility policies, rules, and regulations
- Develop a list of goals and objectives for individual swimming lessonsPrepare and organize specific lesson plans for a variety of skills
- Complete evaluations of student’s swim skills according to the Red Cross Standards
- Articulate student swim abilities and skills to parents as neededImplement in on-site training
- Supervise in scheduled areas on deck as needed throughout the day
- Attend staff training and all meetings
- Assist in the set-up of and clean-up of pool area
- Set a good example for students and others including punctuality, dress, language, and behavior
- Ability to provide Livescan and TB clearance
- Must be at least 25 years of age.
- Current Lifeguard Training and Water Safety Instructor certificates are preferred
- Current CPR and First Aid certification for infant, child, and adult
