What are the responsibilities and job description for the Upper School Math & Computer Science Teacher position at Head-Royce School?
Head-Royce School is seeking a full-time Upper School mathematics teacher to join our math and computer science department, beginning in August 2026. We seek teachers who are not only excited by the content they teach, but who are also actively engaged in evolving their classroom pedagogy. Our faculty create classrooms that encourage students to participate in experiential learning, take risks, view the world through multiple lenses, utilize innovative tools, and demonstrate proficiencies through a range of assessments that include real world problems and performances. Beyond the classroom, teachers are expected to take on Upper School duties such as advising as well as to participate in the life of the community. We seek applicants who have a strong academic background, experience in culturally responsive teaching, a deep understanding of adolescents, and a genuine fondness for working with all students at this specific age level.

Skills
- Experience teaching math at a variety of levels from Geometry through Calculus, Linear Algebra, and / or Differential Equations.
- Empathetic and clear communicator with students, colleagues, and parents.
- Demonstrated understanding of and curiosity regarding curriculum design as well as varied pedagogical approaches including UbD and UDL.
- Strong speaking, writing, planning, and organizational skills.
- Understanding and support of Head-Royce’s core values with strong emphasis on equity and social justice.
- Ability to participate in an outdoor education trip for three nights (additional stipend paid).
- Collaboration and flexibility.
- Demonstrated knowledge and practice of culturally responsive teaching and learning.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics
- 2 years minimum teaching experience.
- Previous teaching experience.
- Proven ability to teach a variety of math classes at the high school level.
- Ability to provide proof of Fingerprint and TB clearance.
- Advanced degrees/certification are desirable in math or math education.
- Experience teaching computer science, engineering, or applied mathematics.
