This position serves as an experienced accountant aspiring to master specified areas of public accounting particularly in the area of federal and state tax. As a Tax Senior Accountant, you must be self-motivated and ambitious. You must also be organized and detail-oriented with strong time management skills and the ability to effectively balance speed and accuracy. It is also important that you have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to get along well with coworkers.
A tax senior accountant has all of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of the tax staff accountant position, which is the foundation for tax accountants. Additionally, tax senior accountant duties include:
Responsibilities of a Tax Senior Accountant
- Prepare complex tax returns effectively and efficiently with minimum supervision
- Calculate quarterly tax estimate and annual extension payments
- Coordinate tax strategies and tax planning while providing tax compliance and tax advisory services
- Prepare responses to inquiries from regulatory agencies and assist with tax examinations
- Perform tax research, prepare tax research memos and analyze tax research to draw reasonable conclusions
- Review less complex tax returns prepared by staff accountants for accuracy and completion
- Demonstrate an overall understanding of various clients to make fundamental decisions relating to tax return preparation
- Compile tax supporting documentation related to the tax return to minimize rework by reviewer
- Understand cause/effects for taxable condition of clients
- Develop client relationships
- Resolve open items and issues encountered on assigned engagements
- Anticipate problems and issues and keep the manager and/or partner informed
- Improve technical skills through CPE, personal commitment, and on-the-job training
- Assist in supervising, developing, and coaching tax staff
- Attend CPE conferences and conduct in-house CPE
- Participate in Tax Department sub-committees
- Be proficient in use of computers and become proficient with firm utilized software
- Administrative and other tasks as assigned

Education:
- Bachelor of accounting degree
Experience:
- 2-3 years of public tax accounting experience
- Certified Public Accountant a plus, or in the process of attaining certificate
