Job Summary:
The Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the daily maintenance, repair, and operational needs of a school campus. This position performs skilled building maintenance work and serves as a lead technician by coordinating work assignments, supporting junior staff, and helping ensure that facilities are safe, functional, and well-maintained for students, staff, and visitors.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Perform skilled maintenance and repair work in areas including:
o Carpentry
o Light plumbing
o Light electrical
o Drywall and painting
o Door, lock, and hardware repair
o Equipment maintenance and repair
o General building systems maintenance
• Troubleshoot and repair building-related systems including:
o Lighting systems
o Plumbing fixtures
o Safety and security systems
o Smoke and CO detectors
o Basic HVAC troubleshooting and preventative maintenance support
• Repair and maintain flooring, walls, ceilings, fixtures, appliances, and other facility components.
• Perform interior and exterior painting, patching, and minor repairs.
• Conduct routine inspections of buildings, classrooms, common areas, and equipment to identify maintenance or safety concerns.
• Assist with preventative maintenance programs and maintain maintenance records as assigned.
• Assist with water intrusion response, mold remediation support, and cleanup related to fire, smoke, or water damage incidents as directed.
• Maintain tools, supplies, and equipment in safe working condition.
• Coordinate and prioritize daily maintenance tasks with the Facilities Director.
• Provide guidance, training, and support to entry-level maintenance staff or temporary personnel.
• Assist with campus event setups and breakdowns, including moving tables, chairs, staging, and equipment.
• Respond to maintenance emergencies and urgent facility issues in a timely manner.
• Work collaboratively with school administrators, faculty, staff, vendors, and contractors to support campus operations.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum 3–5 years of building maintenance or facilities maintenance experience preferred.
• Experience working in schools or institutional environments preferred.
• Working knowledge of:
o Building maintenance practices
o Basic plumbing and electrical systems
o Hand and power tools
o Preventive maintenance procedures
o Safety practices and OSHA standards
• Ability to troubleshoot and prioritize maintenance issues independently.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to read and understand maintenance manuals, instructions, and safety procedures.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred to support effective communication and coordination with evening custodial staff.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders, and lift throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment and tools.
Work Authorization & Background Requirements
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.
• Must successfully pass a background check (Livescan), reference check, and Tuberculosis (TB) test due to working in a school environment.
Salary : $33 - $40
