Position Summary
Precision Metal Products is currently looking for a Maintenance Intern to join their team. The Maintenance Intern will support a manufacturing operation engaged in the production of forged and machined components. This position is responsible for assisting in maintenance and engineering activities that improve equipment reliability, process efficiency, and safety. The intern will work closely with the Maintenance and Engineering teams to document, analyze, and enhance systems related to combustion, piping, and coolant operations.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Determine, through Design of Experiments (DOE), the proper Nitrogen and Natural Gas values to set furnaces to minimize scaling of ferrous materials during forging operations.
- Develop and document procedures for maintaining and confirming proper nitrogen and natural gas levels in furnace systems.
- Identify and recommend upgrades to process valves to allow for proper lockout/tagout.
- Establish a Visual Management system to clearly identify which valves operators are permitted to operate and which are designated for maintenance or commissioning.
- Establish visual management standards for the Coolant Recycling System, including identifying and labeling valving and instrumentation.
- Improve labeling, maintenance, and operation instructions for mechanical systems.
- Assist with preventive maintenance documentation, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities.
- Help the team meet departmental goals by demonstrating a positive, proactive, and safety-oriented attitude.
Experience and Education
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Previous exposure to manufacturing or maintenance environments preferred but not required.
Technical Skills
- Mechanically inclined with attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Basic knowledge of combustion processes, mechanical systems, and industrial piping.
- Safety-oriented mindset and commitment to maintaining a clean, organized work environment.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and system diagrams.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills across all levels of the organization.
