Position Summary
The Maintenance Planner is responsible for developing, coordinating, and optimizing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plant equipment. This role supports both maintenance and production teams by creating detailed job plans, managing work orders, coordinating labor with union craft personnel, and ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements, safety standards, and operational goals.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work Order Management — Review, prioritize, and scope incoming work orders; ensure clarity, accuracy, and proper coding for maintenance execution.
- Preventive Maintenance Planning — Develop and maintain PM schedules, task lists, and frequencies based on OEM recommendations, historical data, and reliability principles.
- Union Labor Coordination — Plan work in alignment with craft classifications, seniority rules, shift structures, and other CBA requirements.
- CMMS – Full responsibility for managing and administering the MaintainX CMMS platform.
- Job Plan Development — Create detailed job packages including labor hours, parts lists, safety procedures, permits, drawings, and step‑by‑step instructions.
- Materials & Parts Planning — Identify required parts, verify availability, and coordinate with storeroom personnel to stage materials.
- Scheduling Support — Collaborate with maintenance supervisors, production leaders, and union crafts to build weekly and daily schedules.
- Equipment History Tracking — Maintain accurate asset histories, failure codes, and documentation within the CMMS.
- Safety & Compliance — Ensure all job plans include lockout/tagout steps, PPE requirements, and regulatory compliance.
- Continuous Improvement — Analyze maintenance data to identify recurring issues, improve PM tasks, and support reliability initiatives.
- Contractor Support – Assist with coordinating with outside contractors for inspections, repairs and troubleshooting
- Spare Parts – Assist with research and acquisition of replacement parts, upgrades or repairs as well as in house management of the tool crib
Experience and Education
- High School Diploma or GED required. Associate degree preferred.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with CMMS software
- Sufficient using a computer and Microsoft applications
- Prior experience in mechanical repair, electrical or millwright roles preferred
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings as needed
Physical Requirements
- Plant Environment — Ability to work in industrial settings with noise, heat, and moving equipment.
- Field Work — Regular equipment inspections, climbing ladders, and accessing confined spaces as needed.
- Office Work — Significant time spent in CMMS planning, documentation, and scheduling.
- Flexible and long hours are sometimes required.
- Physically medium duty work required.
- Requires standing and walking continuously throughout the day.
- Requires bending and kneeling to access areas of the machine and facility where maintenance is needed intermittently.
- Able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 75 pounds of force occasionally.
