Certified Manual Machinist

Position Summary

Under minimal supervision, sets up and operates manually controlled machines in skilled precision and bench work in the manufacturing of machine parts, tools and equipment. 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities 

• Performs all tasks in a safe and responsible manner.
• Reads and interprets blueprints.
• Uses gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements.
• Uses precision tools, machinery and equipment such as lathe, vertical milling machine, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment.
• Fabricates and shapes parts such as tools and machine parts out of metal.
• Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories and materials onto machines.  
• Recognizes, deploys and properly uses inserts, fixtures and tooling.
• Performs daily and regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment.
• Ability to track parts and jobs.
• Utilizes and abides by ISO requirements and safety procedures.
• Complies with all quality policies, specifications, regulations and instructions. 

Physical Requirements

• Flexible and long hours sometimes required. Physically medium duty work required. 
• Requires standing continuously and walking and sitting occasionally throughout the day. 
• Able to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects up to 25 pounds frequently.  

Experience and Education 

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of three (3) years in set-up and operation of manual machines.

Technical Skills 

• Advanced knowledge of blueprints and measuring devices.
• Working knowledge of all measuring devices including micrometers and calipers.
• Ability to use various types of hand tools, grinders, and drills.
• Demonstrated ability to operate multiple machines when appropriate.
• Highly skilled in shop math.
