Position Summary

The Associate Director/Director, Private Investments will play a key role in sourcing, evaluating, and monitoring private investment managers across a range of strategies including buyout, growth, venture, private credit, and infrastructure. This position requires a deep understanding of the private markets landscape, strong analytical and due diligence capabilities, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with both external investment partners and internal stakeholders. The position will also help the development of a co-investment program and should have experience underwriting individual co-investments.

The ideal candidate will bring a blend of investment acumen, strategic thinking, and relationship management skills to support the firm’s mission of delivering differentiated investment solutions to clients.


Job Responsibilities


Investment Sourcing & Origination

  • Identify, evaluate, and develop relationships with private equity firms, venture capital managers, and other alternative investment sponsors to source fund and co-investment opportunities.
  • Maintain a strong network of industry contacts to ensure consistent access to high-quality deal flow.
  • Proactively research market trends, sectors, and geographies to identify emerging investment themes and opportunities.

Due Diligence & Analysis

  • Lead or support comprehensive due diligence on co-investment and direct deal opportunities, including financial modeling, valuation analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external advisors to assess operational, legal, and market considerations.
  • Prepare detailed investment memoranda and present recommendations to the investment committee.

Transaction Execution

  • Negotiate and structure investment terms in collaboration with legal counsel and senior leadership.
  • Coordinate closing processes, ensuring all required documentation, compliance, and approvals are in place.

Portfolio Management

  • Monitor existing private investment portfolio, tracking performance, valuation changes, and key operational developments.
  • Maintain regular communication with sponsor partners.

Stakeholder & Client Engagement

  • Serve as a subject matter expert  for private markets for internal advisors, clients, and prospects.
  • Contribute to client reporting, educational materials, and presentations.
  • Participate in client meetings as needed to explain private investment strategies, risks, and performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, CFA, or CAIA preferred.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience, such as private equity, investment banking, or asset management (endowment, foundation, family office, OCIO firm, fund of funds, or similar organization), with a preference for experience with direct/co-investment transactions.
  • Demonstrated track record in evaluating and executing private market investments.
  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills.
  • Excellent negotiation skills and familiarity with private investment legal structures.
  • Deep network of industry relationships within the private equity and alternative investment ecosystem.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex investment ideas.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Ability to successfully pass criminal background / credit check required.

This is not a remote position. Candidates should expect to be in an HB office 3 days per week. Candidates should be local or willing to relocate to the Baltimore-Washington metro area, Atlanta, Tampa, or Palm Beach.
