What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equine Handler position at Hazelwild Farm?
Overview
We are only hiring experienced candidates who can work outdoors, on their feet for up to 8 hours at a time. Candidates must me able to lift 50lbs or more to be able to move hay bales and feed bags. Candidates must be able to work mornings and some weekends.
For those of you who are interested, with no horse experience, we do have volunteer positions helping with our Therapeutic Riding Program to help you gain experience.

As an Equine Handler, you will be responsible for daily horse management, ensuring proper handling, feeding, grooming, and stable maintenance. Your proactive approach and mechanical aptitude will contribute to a safe and efficient operation, supporting both the animals and the team.
Duties
- Safely handle and manage horses during daily routines such as feeding, changing blankets and turn out.
- Maintain clean and organized stables, paddocks, and surrounding areas to promote healthy living conditions
- Operate farm machinery including tractors and other equipment necessary for horse care and facility maintenance
- Perform minor repairs on fencing, stalls, and equipment using tools to ensure safety standards are met
- Follow strict safety procedures during all activities to ensure a secure environment for animals and personnel
Requirements
- Must have some experience with horses.
- Must be able to lift 50lbs or more.
- Must be able to work at 6:45am
- Must be able to work some weekend shifts.
- Must have a valid Drivers License
- Must have a clean criminal background that meets school standards. (We operate a Pre-K School on the property.)
Pay: From $13.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20.0 – 40.0 per week
