CAFETERIA MANAGER
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the leadership of the Director of Nutrition, the position is responsible for planning, managing, monitoring, supervising, and providing direction in the provisioning, operation, and functions of a school cafeteria. The Cafeteria Manager oversees daily food service operations to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while maintaining high standards of food quality, sanitation, safety, and customer service.
ESSENTIAL TASKS
Plan, coordinate, assign, oversee, and participate as required in the preparation, batch cooking, and serving of food; prepare and maintain necessary records and files.
Supervise and train cafeteria staff in operational procedures, food preparation, sanitation practices, customer service, and maintaining accurate food service records.
Prepare and serve meals and other food to children and adults in a courteous, customer service-oriented manner.
Practice and enforce personal hygiene and proper sanitation standards in accordance with local, state, and federal guidelines.
Identify operational problems and implement or recommend changes in methods and procedures to improve efficiency and service.
Open kitchen, set up equipment, and prepare cafeteria for serving.
Maintain consistency in food preparation and service to students and school employees.
Monitor food quality, portion control, food temperatures, and inventory to ensure compliance with nutritional guidelines and food safety standards.
Prepare equipment for food preparation and monitor refrigeration equipment to ensure proper operation and temperature compliance.
Prepare work schedules, assign daily duties, maintain employee time sheets, and ensure adequate staffing for cafeteria operations.
Receive, inspect, verify, and sign for food and supply deliveries to the school.
Prepare food production reports, inventory reports, and other required documentation.
Supervise cleaning and sanitizing of cooking and serving utensils, counters, equipment, storage areas, and kitchen facilities.
Prepare work details for the next day and secure kitchen facilities at the end of the day.
Maintain effective communication and working relationships with associates, students, school staff, parents, vendors, and district personnel while maintaining emotional control.
Must be able to work effectively with others in a close, fast-paced environment.
Perform related work as required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Some walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Ability to lift a minimum of 30 pounds, stand for long periods of time, and withstand heat.
