Position Overview

The Project Safety Manager provides on-site leadership, coordination, and oversight of EHS activities within an assigned area of a large-scale electrical construction project. This position is responsible for supporting compliance with corporate EHS standards, regulatory requirements, and client safety expectations within a mission-critical data center environment.

The Project Safety Manager serves as a key field resource for implementing and sustaining Hays Electrical Services’ EHS programs, promoting a proactive safety culture, and ensuring safe execution of work activities in coordination with project leadership and the Project Safety Lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee EHS activities within an assigned area of the project, ensuring compliance with company programs, regulatory requirements, and client expectations.
  • Promote and reinforce Hays Electrical Services safety programs, policies, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain a consistent field presence to monitor work activities, verify compliance, and drive safe behaviors across crews and subcontractors.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors, take immediate corrective action, and escalate risks as necessary, including exercising stop-work authority when required.
  • Support planning and safe execution of high-risk activities, including electrical work, lockout/tagout (LOTO), energized systems, and other critical operations.
  • Provide direction, coaching, and technical guidance to field supervision and Safety Coordinators within assigned areas.
  • Coordinate with construction, QA/QC, and Commissioning teams to ensure safe work sequencing and risk mitigation.
  • Support incident management processes, including reporting, investigation participation, root cause analysis, and corrective action tracking.
  • Conduct and oversee safety inspections, audits, and field observations to ensure consistent program implementation.
  • Coordinate and support safety permitting processes as required (hot work, confined space, energized work, etc.).
  • Maintain accurate EHS documentation, including training records, inspections, permits, and incident reports.
  • Serve as a point of contact for EHS matters within the assigned area, supporting communication between field teams, project leadership, and corporate EHS

Education, Qualifications, & Certifications

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred); equivalent field experience considered in lieu of formal education
  • 3–5 years of experience in electrical construction safety, with demonstrated experience supporting or leading safety efforts within assigned project areas (electrical or mission-critical)
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926, NFPA 70E, and energy-control (LOTO) requirements
  • Experience conducting field training, audits, and supporting incident investigations
  • Demonstrated ability to influence safety culture and lead by example in a fast-paced construction setting
  • Certifications:
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction (required)
  • First Aid/CPR (required or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • CHST or equivalent (preferred)
  • NFPA 70E Electrical Safety training
